Dog-friendly NYC: Street fairs.

One of the things I love most about New York is that once it gets warm, there’s tons of stuff to do outside. And the more you can do outside, the more you can do with your pup! So we’ll be featuring local dog-friendly events and activities to get you both out of the house and into the streets.

Street fairs and festivals are all over the City almost every weekend, and they’re a great way to get out with your buddy. NYC Street Fairs has a great schedule of a ton of fairs and festivals happening around town. While these all look like great events to soak up some rays, sample tasty foods, and buy shit you don’t need, use your best judgment when it comes to taking your pooch along.

You probably want to leave Sparky at home if you’re heading out to the NYC Business Expo, but the 2nd Annual Dog Show and Parade tomorrow would be the perfect place to let him sniff around, run amok, and make new friends. I saw a flier for it and snapped a quick shot with my phone.

Hosted by the West 90th Street Park Block Association, Green Up, Clean Up Day has dog-friendly fun built right in with a dog show (every dog gets a prize! wonder what it could be?) and a freaking PARADE. If there’s a thing I love more than dogs, it’s parades. If you don’t know why it’s an awesome combo, click play immediately:

Green Up, Clean Up Day takes place Saturday (tomorrow) on West 90th St between Columbus Ave and Central Park West. Bring a friend, bring your pooch, bring me! Anyone? Anyone? … Ok then.

As always, be alert when you’re strolling around with your dog, especially since these events get pretty crowded. Keep an eye on his mood and avoid really tight squeezes with other festival-goers. Watch for dropped food — I’m cool with letting my pup snag a bit of pizza crust, but a chicken bone is a definite no-no — and carry a bottle of water so you can keep him hydrated.

Have fun!
